Jim and Brenda Seratt have a rich heritage in Christian life and ministry. Both were raised in Pastor's homes, and know the sacrifice and discipline necessary to fulfill a calling from GOD. They were married in 1971, and immediately entered into full-time ministry. After spending four years in evangelistic ministry, they were led to enter the pastoral ministry, in which they have remained for the last 33 years.
Although Jim and Brenda give the majority of their time serving as Pastors of Grace Community Church, both are bi-vocational. Jim completed his Masters Degree in History at Lamar University in 1995, and has served as Lecturer in American History at Lamar University (Beaumont) since 1995. Brenda is employed as a Licensed Christian Counselor at Howton Family Counseling Center, which serves the entire Golden Triangle.
The Seratts have two children, Jim Jr., and Misty Dawn, and two grandchildren, Chase and Gage.
After much prayer and soul searching, Jim and Brenda Seratt received assurance in their hearts that God had directed them to plant a church in Vidor, Texas. The Seratts came to Vidor with thirteen years of full-time ministerial experience in both Pastoral and Evangelistic ministry, and for quite some time prior to the beginning of 1983, the Seratts had felt a divine urging in their spirits to plant and pioneer a new work.
On February 21, 1983, Grace Community Church (known then as Word & Praise Center) was born. The first service was in a rented facility at 2610 North Main Street in Vidor, Texas. That small facility was the church's home for the next eighteen months. In these early months of church planting and growing, GCC labored faithfully at developing a well-rounded ministry to all ages. That ministry included a children's ministry, youth ministry, and a training center to minister the Word to serious Bible students.
A major move took place in November 1984. God had supernaturally made accessible to the new fellowship a church plant (buildings) of approximately 11,000 square feet located at 1030 North Main in Vidor. GCC leased that property for three years (1984-1987) then was able to purchase the property in 1988.
Grace Community Church is a vibrant and Spirit-filled body of believers who are committed to ministering to the needs of the community of Vidor, Texas.
